![]() Lewin (Special started teaching at Nottingham at the start of the 2019 school year, after a 12-year hiatus as a stay-at-home mom. I am thrilled to meet everyone and get started learning! Go Heels! I love to travel, spend time with my family and friends, and read lots of books. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for my undergraduate degree and for my Master’s in Elementary Education. Lucky (Twitter): name is Kayla, and I am so excited to start my fourth year at Nottingham! I grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and moved to Arlington in 2020. I am looking forward to a great year in 4th grade! I enjoy going to the OBX, reading Nora Roberts’ books, watching tv, and listening to music. I live in Woodbridge with my husband Ray and my dog Buster. I moved to Virginia after spending 5 years in Maryland. I grew up in Sunbury, which is along the Susquehanna River. I am certified in Elementary Education, Special Education, and School Library and Instructional Technology. In May, 2013, I graduated from Mansfield University, with a Master’s Degree in School Media and Library Science. I obtained the Elementary Education endorsement on my teaching certificate in 2010. I graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2006, with a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching. ![]() I graduated from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education in 1991. Prior to working at Nottingham, I taught middle school for 11 years in APS and in Maryland, and 10 years at Randolph Elementary School. I started teaching at Nottingham in 2012 and I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Zipfel and I will be teaching Math and Science this year. I cannot wait to meet you and your family! I’m a big DC sports fan, I’m passionate about competitive drum and bugle corps, and I love reading about military history. I am ready and excited to begin my career as a teacher in the community that raised me. I am thrilled to be teaching at the school I attended as a child (class of 2005)! I’ve been working with children for over ten years at The Congressional School in Falls Church. But, this is not my first year here at Nottingham. This is my first year teaching at Nottingham Elementary School. Students develop the ability to independently problem solve and learn from each other. Through daily assignments and long-term projects students practice organization and time management skills. Independence and responsibility are key characteristics of Fourth Grade. ![]()
